In this tutorial, we have explored the effect of the shape of a patent. Through graphic demonstrations and arguments, we have arrived at rather surprising answers. Our discussion indicates that patents should be arbitrarily long or arbitrarily wide. Clearly this remains somewhat unsatisfying, and suggests that we have failed to model certain constraints that prevent such extreme solutions. Further research is necessary to reconcile the opposing solutions we have found.
